Window Film. It’s not rocket science…

Posted on - June 7, 2017

At Durable we know a lot about history.

We should — we’ve been around for most of it.

In 1969 when the Apollo 11 space mission was putting Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon the window film industry was in it’s infancy.

Woodstock happened the same year. But we were far too busy to get drunk and naked in a field.

That’s when ‘Durable Solar Control Ltd’ first set up business — almost 50 years ago!

We are the oldest window film company in Europe.

Durable have been around THAT LONG. No — really — they have been around for absolutely ages.

The name ‘Durable’ has been synonymous with selling and sticking film on windows for a very l-o-o-o-n-n-g-g-g-g time.

And almost 45 years ago the book ‘The Joy of Sex’ was first published. It coincided nicely with the first coupling of Durable and Solar Gard — and we’ve had a great relationship ever since.

So – we’ve basically been working with SolarGard since the last Ice Age.

Sort of.

Nearly.

Definitely an Age anyway.

Speaking of age — between them Peter, Nick and Tony have over 130 years with Durable!

(We’re not being unkind when we tell you — they’re old.  Tony remembers a time before buildings had windows, let alone film… and Nick got his first break supplying an early form of paint protection material to chariot racers… Peter can’t remember how long he’s been with us, but then he can’t remember where he left his car keys or where he lives sometimes.)

“I started in 1982 with Durable on what was to be a yearlong stay, however  35 years later I am still here, along with my fellow Directors Nick and Tony who both have worked for Durable for well over 40 years, and many of our team  with over 25 years-service to the window film market place, so we must be doing something right!”

DURABLE

We recently received a “Lifetime Achievement ‘ Award from Solar Gard for our unique long standing commitment to window film.

And just for being generally awesome.

Well done us.

AND Durable have had over 20 years in the Auto-tinting industry. First as Suppliers and Installers with two full time centres in Reading and Manchester.

So it was no surprise that when Solar Gard were looking for someone to take over their Autotint distribution business in the UK — Durable were the obvious choice. Check out our sister company at www.autotint.co.uk for more.

Durable have a great pedigree and an unrivalled heritage. We continue to go from strength to strength — providing all our years of experience and knowledge, whilst continually embracing and supporting the development of new products and markets.
